The Volvo Ocean Race sails in quest of adventurous competition on cleaner seas –

Having set sail in October 2017, this 9 month Volvo Ocean Race will conclude soon at The Hague, The Netherlands.

(May 31, 2018, Sainte Claire, QC) — The annual Volvo Ocean Race launched in 1973, sails on as the ultimate challenge in seamanship. Volvo Group and Volvo Car jointly own this worldwide regatta as a worthwhile conveyance to conduct business and promote their brand; pointing to the convincing and parallels between this race and the culture and values that drive Volvo forward — strength, endurance and adventurous competition backed by innovation and technology.

Commencing for nine months out of the year over the course of 46,000 nautical miles, across four oceans and six continents with stopovers in 13 host cities, the Volvo Ocean Race serves as the ultimate platform to deliver the deeper message to international audiences that the world’s oceans are in trouble.

Volvo races for clean ocean global awareness

Volvo’s herculean effort in sponsoring and staging the Ocean Race promotes global awareness of the necessity to keep the oceans of the world clean and free of further pollution, most notably everyday single-use plastic items such as straws, water bottles and shopping bags.

In conjunction with its sustainability partners, 11th Hour Racing and Bluewater, Volvo Ocean Race Education Program is conducting its Ocean Summits in seven stopover cities as part of the United Nations Environment’s Clean Seas campaign. These focused presentations bring leaders from sports, industry, government and science together to address innovations and solutions to the global crisis of ocean plastic pollution.

“Plastics pollution is one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time,” he says. “We take our responsibility seriously to play our part and help tackle this global catastrophe.”

Having set sail in October 2017, this edition of the Volvo Ocean Race will conclude in June at The Hague, The Netherlands.
