A division of RLI Insurance Company since 1997, RLI Transportation Insurance specializes in insuring vehicle fleets for charter-and-tour operators, municipal transit authorities, school districts, school bus contractors and limousine services. In addition to public transportation providers, it offers coverage for truckers and commercial specialty auto companies. It has centralized operations in Atlanta, GA.

“Our customized approach allows us to develop coverages that meet very specific needs,” said Tim Hathy, Vice President – Public Transportation for RLI Transportation Insurance.

The company’s coverages include:

“Our underwriters are experts at handling public transportation risks and designing financing alternatives to fit our insureds’ budget requirements, including deductibles and self-insured retentions. We also serve as a third-party administrator for self-insured operations,” Hathy said.

“Whether your needs are superior claims service or timely processing of financial responsibility filings, our staff’s attentiveness to your needs shows that we look after your business…because your business is our business,” he added.

In partnership with Professional Safety Consulting (PSC), RLI Transportation Insurance also provides its clients with access to safety and driver education resources, including Web-based training, updates and materials such as online transportation safety and compliance manuals.

RLI Corporation, headquartered in Peoria, IL, is the parent corporation of RLI Insurance Company (including the RLI Transportation Insurance division), Mt. “The A.M. Best A+ rating is a distinction held by fewer than 10 percent of property and casualty insurance companies in the U.S.,” Hathy noted. “Our proven financial strength ensures that we are here to fulfill our promises.”

Founded in 1961, initially as an insurer of contact lenses, RLI today offers a diversified portfolio of property and casualty insurance coverages and surety bonds in niche and underserved markets. Among these are off-the-shelf, semi-custom and custom terminal boards and blocks.

In the early 1970s, Doran turned its focus to vehicle safety products, introducing safety light monitors for the school bus market. The exterior light monitors help to prevent accidents by alerting bus drivers to malfunctioning LED and incandescent vehicle lights, due to problems such as loose wiring, cut connectors and blown fuses.

Doran’s emergency exit monitor sounds a buzzer and turns on an indicator light if an emergency door, window or hatch is violated.
